We're Hard Podcast Show

Sleep is vital in our daily routine and physical and mental well-being. During sleep, our body repairs and renews itself, and lack of it can cause severe health problems. Men are often more prone to sleep deprivation for various reasons, such as work demands, family responsibilities, and lifestyle habits. However, the risks associated with sleep deprivation among men cannot be ignored.

It can kill men’s sex drives

Sleep deprivation can be followed by a decrease in testosterone, which plays a vital role in male sexual function. A study by the University of Chicago found that men who slept for less than five hours a night had significantly lower testosterone levels than those who slept for more than eight hours. This decrease in testosterone can lead to a decline in libido or sex drive in men.

It can make you gain more weight

Sleep deprivation can lead to weight gain in men by disrupting the hormones that regulate appetite, increasing insulin resistance and cortisol levels, and reducing motivation to exercise.

It can weaken your immune system

Sleep deprivation can lead to a weakened immune system in men by reducing the production of cytokines, antibodies, and lymphocytes, increasing inflammation, and suppressing the immune response.

Sleep deprivation can cause a reduction in the production of cytokines, which are proteins that help our body fight off infections and inflammation. Lack of sleep can also cause increased inflammation, weakening the immune system and making it harder for the body to fight infections.

It can decrease the production of antibodies, proteins that help our body recognize and fight off harmful pathogens. It can make men more susceptible to illnesses such as the flu, colds, and other infections. It can increase stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones can suppress the immune system, making it less effective in fighting infections and illnesses. Sleep is essential for adequately functioning the lymphatic system, which removes waste and toxins from the body.
