So, you found out he cheated. Now what? You can break up or you can forgive. Cheating is a betrayal of trust that can be incredibly painful and difficult to forgive. If you’re struggling to forgive someone who has cheated on you, there are a few things you can do to help yourself through the process.
The first step is to accept the reality for what happened. This may be difficult but acknowledging the truth will help you move forward.
Allow yourself to feel all the feels! Its normal to have a range of emotions after you’ve found out you’ve been betrayed. Don’t bottled up these emotions let them out in a healthy way (rage room anyone?)
Talk to someone you trust; this will help you process your emotions and understand what happened. Getting outside support can help you see the situation from a different angle.
Talk to you partner, get to the bottom or why they cheated. This will help you understand their reasoning and allow you to choose whether to forgive them.
Next use all the information you have gathered and listen to your feelings. Do you want to stay in this relationship or not. Evaluate everything.
Whichever option you choose you need time to heal. You cannot forgive overnight and moving on from this will be hard weather you stay or go. Know that it is a process.
Seek professional help if you need it. Don’t be afraid to seek out advice from a therapist who can help you sort through your emotions.
