For many, erectile dysfunction medication is a solution to a lifetime of struggle. It permits access to an erection, boosting confidence and improving mental health. Before taking any erectile dysfunction medication, you should understand the benefits and side effects of the drug.
Common Types of Erectile Dysfunction Medication
There are four major types of oral erectile dysfunction medication available on the market. While they all accomplish the same task, there are slight differences.
The available options include the following:
- Viagra: Taken on an empty stomach an hour before sex.
- Stendra: Taken with or without food half an hour before sex, for moderate or less severe erectile dysfunction.
- Cialis: Taken an hour before sex and can be taken in larger or smaller doses.
- Vardenafil: Taken an hour before sex on an empty stomach and works for 4-5 hours.
Benefits of Erectile Dysfunction Medication
The primary benefit of erectile dysfunction medication is that it allows a man to hold onto an erection, leading to a much happier sex life. It’s a solution to physical and mental health struggles that arise from being unable to retain an erection.
Erectile dysfunction medication can also be a relief to the partner who is worried about their loved one and what erectile dysfunction does to them.
Side Effects of Erectile Dysfunction Medication
There are many possible side effects of erectile dysfunction medication. The most common include dizziness, back pain, vision changes, runny or stuffy nose, headache, upset stomach, and a flushing of the skin. These will usually go away on their own.
Some of the more serious side effects of erectile dysfunction medication include the following:
- Erection that won’t go away: In some cases, you may garner an erection that won’t go away by itself. Go to a doctor if it doesn’t go away after four hours or you could damage your body.
- Hearing loss: Sometimes, hearing loss occurs after ingesting this medication. There is little understanding of this issue yet.
- Vision loss: Like hearing loss, some who take this medication experience vision loss. Again, the knowledge of this is limited.
