We're Hard Podcast Show

Fad diets have always been a thing, but they’ve become more common with the rise in social media. Some claim they work, while others assume they’re sad attempts to draw people to certain products. While there are some practical fad diets, others aren’t as ideal.

What Are Common Fad Diets?

Hundreds of fad diets have circulated their way through the market. However, several stand out as prominent selections in the culture.

Here are some of the most common fad diets:

  • Atkins Diet: This diet significantly lowers an intake of carbs with the goal of weight loss. It provides carbohydrate recommendations based on weight loss goals.
  • South Beach Diet: This diet also limits carbs to around a quarter of your diet. It functions in three phases of limitation.
  • Raw Food Diet: This diet focuses on eating food in its rawest state. Nothing is cooked above a certain temperature.
  • Paleo Diet: The goal is to eat like our ancestors. Thus, it focuses on whole foods like meat and grass-fed eggs.
  • Keto Diet: The keto diet lowers carbs to less than 5% of calorie intake. It focuses on adding more healthy fats to the diet.

How Effective Are Fad Diets?

While some bodies find fad diets work, others don’t do well with these selections. It can be almost impossible to find a fad diet that works. Most have more downsides than up and aren’t ideal for longevity.

Here are some of the downsides of the diets we mentioned:

  • Atkins Diet: This diet limits plant-based food and doesn’t offer enough to remain full throughout the day.
  • South Beach Diet: This diet villainizes carbs, even though they are a core source of energy for the body.
  • Raw Food Diet: This diet can limit nutrients unlocked in cooking.
  • Paleo Diet: This diet is sustainable thanks to a wider selection of products, but it can be more expensive.
  • Keto Diet: There are significant long-term impacts on the body with a keto diet, including high blood pressure.
