There is ample information in the world about sex. While some of it is true, some concerning myths could hinder someone’s experience or even change their life altogether. It’s vital to separate fiction from reality.
Common Sexual Myths
1. It Burns Ample Calories
One of the most common myths, and a lighthearted one, is that sex burns significant calories and it’s an effective form of working out. While it’s true that intercourse burns calories, it only burns around 3-4 calories a minute depending on what you’re doing.
Despite the confidence of some, it’s rare sex takes longer than twenty minutes. Thus, you aren’t burning as many calories as you think.
2. Lubrication Isn’t Necessary
Another unfortunate myth is that once aroused, there is no need for more lubrication. Some women might be okay with this, but for others, lubrication is still an essential part of the process.
Even arousal might not offer enough lubrication for a comfortable sexual experience. Ensure you never assume, and speak to your partner about what they would like before making rash decisions.
3. Withdrawal Prevents Pregnancy
Many people dislike condoms. Rather than using them, they decide to try the withdrawal method. While many assume this technique is completely effective, it isn’t.
For most people, withdrawal works around 78% of the time. That is still the majority of the time. However, it’s vital to remember that 22% of the time, it doesn’t work. Withdrawal is not the same thing as abstinence.
4. No Pregnancy On Your Period
Another common misconception is that it isn’t possible to get pregnant while on your period. While it’s far less likely, there is still a chance it can happen.
Pregnancy can only happen around ovulation when the sperm meets the egg. The sperm can live up to five days inside a female. Thus, if ovulation is soon after a period, the sperm could survive long enough for fertilization.
5. Condoms Aren’t As Enjoyable
Finally, the tragic myth that condoms aren’t enjoyable. Condoms don’t feel far off from condomless experiences, especially with the technology of today. Plus, they protect each individual from diseases and keep pregnancy at bay.
