There are certain eye problems that men may be especially at risk for compared to women. Men tend to neglect their eyes and only take notice when vision problems arise. Taking care of our eyes is also part of our well-being.
Keeping tabs on your eyes’ health will give you the advantage of detecting any problems in its early stages. There are numerous ways to keep your eyes in great condition and we are here to provide steps in doing just that. Take note of the five tips listed below for men to keep a healthy vision:
- Get enough key vitamins
Vitamin A and C together with minerals such as Zinc keeps your eyes healthy. Here’s a list of good sources of these nutrients:
- Carrots
- Broccoli
- Spinach
- Tomatoes
- Strawberries
- Red peppers
- Oranges
- Avoid smoking
Smoking increases the risk of some eye problems like cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. According to studies, men abuse tobacco products more compared to women. Talk to your doctor to find ways for you to quit.
- Avoid UV exposure
Too much sun exposure increases the chance of developing cataracts and skin cancer around your eyes. To prevent skin damage, make sure to apply sunscreen. Cloudy days are no exemption because the UV rays can still manage to penetrate through the clouds. For even more protection, wear a cap when you are out in the sun.
- Get enough sleep
Like any other part of the body, your eyes need time to rest as well. Proper and enough sleep allows your body to recover and rest. Make sure to get seven to nine hours of sleep every night.
- Get regular eye exams
Regular eye exams are the best way to keep your eye health and vision in check. Regularly going to your ophthalmologist for eye exams can help in detecting early stages of eye diseases.
