Eating healthy is good for anybody, but eating out can feel impossible. Salads are boring, and it’s too easy to be tempted by a massive plate of greasy, salty fries. Luckily, there are several ways to eat healthy if you head to a restaurant with a friend.
Advice for Healthy Eating Out
1. Don’t Drink Your Calories
One of the most critical things to remember when eating out is not to drink calories. Drinks can have ample calories, fat, and sugar, which is far easily gulped down in minutes. It typically doesn’t satiate the body and will leave you hungry for more.
Opt for a diet beverage or stick with water as your main drink during the meal. This tactic also means skipping out on alcoholic beverages like mojitos and cocktails.
2. Drink Water Before and While Eating
One of the simplest ways to keep yourself full and satiated during your meal is by drinking water before and during the meal. You don’t have to chug water, but drinking a normal amount will ensure you aren’t starving at the restaurant.
The best part is that water is free. You can get unlimited refills throughout the meal, which will assist with healthy eating habits.
3. Eat Slowly and Chew
When a person is hungry, there’s a tendency to eat rapidly and down the food as fast as possible. However, you must eat slowly and chew to remain full. You’ll feel full more quickly and enjoy the experience with your friends, rather than focusing so much on your food.
4. Get Sauces/Dressing On the Side
Sauces and dressings carry significant calories, and many sauces are mixed right into the food and raise the unhealthy aspects of your meal. Instead of getting sauces and dressings inside the dish, ask for them on the side to limit what you ingest.
5. Split With Someone Else
Finally, a simple way to eat healthier when eating out is to split a meal with someone else. You can still enjoy a less healthy dish, but it’s made better by only eating half of it.
