Are you starting off the new year single? You aren’t alone, as many couples can’t withstand the pressure of the holiday season. Before you dive into dating apps, here’s a list of tips to help you have more successful first dates this coming year.
1. Keep Things Low Key
Many individuals put too much pressure on a first date, especially if there has been a lot of talk leading up to it. Instead of sitting down for a several hour dinner that could be filled with awkward silences, plan first dates that are more low key. We recommend coffee, a drink, or even a simple walk in a park with pets.
2. Don’t Stress
So many people ruin first dates because they are so stressed about whether or not their date will like them. Remember, the right person for you will like you no matter what–don’t stress about saying or doing the wrong thing because this will just make you more nervous!
3. Dress for Success
Although you shouldn’t stress too much, ensure that you do dress nicely, even if you are just headed for a coffee. There is nothing more off-putting to show up for a date to spend time on your appearance only for the other individual to look as if they just rolled out of bed.
4. Be Prepared to Listen
Everyone likes to talk about themselves, but knowing how to listen is important in a relationship, so you’ll want to practice in advance. Remember to maintain eye contact as you listen to avoid appearing bored.
5. Prepare a Few Topics
While you should be prepared to listen, you should also take a few moments to think up some topics to discuss in case the natural flow of conversation comes to a halt for some reason. We recommend staying away from topics like politics and instead asking about interests or hobbies.
