One of the more recent additions to the workout world is the HIIT workout. There are gyms specializing in HIIT workouts and ample content creators making these workouts online for others to follow. What are HIIT workouts, and why are they effective choices?

What Are HIIT Workouts?

HIIT workouts, otherwise known as high-intensity interval training, is a workout focusing on short interval bursts of 15 seconds to four minutes. The goal is to give 80-90% of energy for a shorter workout, keeping motivation and pushing the individual to the maximum as fast as possible. There is typically a quick period of recovery between each exercise. 

HIIT is high-intensity. It typically focuses on cardio rather than strength training. The participant will sweat quickly and burn calories for around two hours after you complete the activity. 

What Makes HIIT Workout Effective?

There is an obvious intensity that comes with a HIIT workout, since it’s a fast-paced endeavor with minimal break opportunities. While some might not enjoy how short HIIT is, there are several clear benefits. The core is the quick pace and high rate of speed and intensity. 

Here are the effective results of HIIT techniques:

  • Burning calories: HIIT can help you burn more quickly, so you don’t need to work out as long to burn significant calories.
  • High metabolic rate: HIIT workouts allow you to burn calories long after you complete the HIIT adventure.
  • Fat loss: HIIT workouts lower body fat and reduce the waist.
  • Muscle gain: If your HIIT workout includes push-ups or other body-weight exercises, you could gain muscle.

Are There Downsides to HIIT Workouts?

There are some downsides to HIIT. It might not work for every body type, can put strain on the body and even hurt it, forms a higher risk of injury, and can put work on the nervous system. Carefully consider before incorporating HIIT into your typical regimen.
