Though many don’t realize it, diet has a significant impact on one’s overall complexion. One item that can wreak havoc on the skin is alcohol. Skipping booze can brighten one’s complexion.

Negative Impacts of Alcohol on the Skin

Alcohol has a minimal positive impact on the body and causes more trouble than it’s worth. When considering the skin, it can do everything from causing breakouts to making it age prematurely.

Some of the worst impacts of alcohol on the skin include the following:

  • Dehydration: Alcohol can dehydrate the skin, which leads to wrinkling and more visible pores.
  • Rosacea: There is a greater risk of rosacea for those who consume ample alcohol, especially in women.
  • Inflammation: Alcohol pulls blood to the tissues and leads to inflammation.
  • Lack of nutrients: Alcohol contains empty sugar and calories, which could deprive your skin and body of necessary nutrients.
  • Early aging: All these factors could cause early aging of the skin.

Positive Skin Impacts of Removing Alcohol Consumption

Cutting alcohol will show positive results on the skin, especially for those who have several drinks a week. There is ample evidence for positive skin impacts after removing excess consumption.

Some of the optimal results on the skin include the following:

  • Improved appearance: Your skin will be less red, blotchy, and appear much healthier.
  • Brighter complexion: In time, the skin adopts a brighter complexion to the eye.
  • Fewer breakouts: Alcohol can cause breakouts, so drinking less will reduce acne breakouts.
  • Less wrinkles: Less alcohol benefits skin elasticity and can reduce the number of wrinkles.

What is the Best Beverage Option for Your Skin?

Water is the best liquid for your skin. However, if you want something more exciting, consider swapping out alcohol with coconut water, carrot juice, mocktails, green smoothies, mint and herbal-infused waters, sparkling water, and more. Anything with water or fruit is an optimal choice for hydration and a brighter complexion.
